Google Goggles Fail: aw c'mon...a black woman is similar to a chimp?

Dear Google, test your software against offending people.

No this is not another <insert product> is racist rant - or should it be? I know Goggles doesn't work on faces but I snapped picture of my fiance with G Goggles this afternoon and after analyzing it showed a picture of a monkey as a similar image.

There have been so many stories to date about racist software & sometimes hardware .

There is a larger issue to note about how much software testing needs to be improved. HP's issue with its racist web cam was apparently because the underlying software couldn't recognize dark skin tones and just needed a bit more lighting for darker skinned'ed people to be recognized.

I know generally software engineers are perceived to be anti-social assholes, but please be sure to test your software for insensitive or offensive shit.

Google engineers specifically need to put a bit more real life into building out apps and testing them for potentially offending people.

I respect developers, I am not one developer by any means, I am however building a craigslist-y marketplace for political campaigns and service providers in that vertical (www.campshare.org), though I don't anticipate causing any kerfuffle's like this, I'll be sure to test my shit - in case before it's in production.

Google Goggles is racist - ok I said it.
